World Famous Yoga Teacher Dharma Mittra Comes to Renowned Spa Walden in Aurora, OH, on Weekend of April 18 and 19, 2015

In First Visit to Northeast Ohio, New York City-based Master Yogi Teaches Classes on Postures, Breathing Techniques, Meditation and Spirituality

CLEVELAND, OH: On the weekend of April 18 and 19, 2015, one of the world’s foremost yoga teachers, Sri Dharma Mittra will teach classes at award-winning Spa Walden. Located in Aurora, OH, a half-hour drive from downtown Cleveland, Spa Walden is part of a luxurious, 32-acre, country sanctuary that includes Ohio’s only five-diamond AAA hotel. Sri Dharma’s visit is sponsored by the OM Studio and yoga teacher training program at Spa Walden.

On Saturday, April 18, 5:30-7 pm, Sri Dharma will teach a class on breath techniques, known as pranayama, and lead a gathering to share wisdom on ethics, spirituality and meditation, known as satsang. On Sunday, April 19, Sri Dharma will teach an asana or yogic postures class, followed by yoga nidra, or deep sleep for relaxation and mindfulness, with a delicious vegan lunch provided by Inn Walden. While the Sunday immersion classes are full, spots are available for the Maha Pranayama and Satsang events on Saturday evening. The general public is invited and the cost is $45.

Co-proprietor of Spa and Inn Walden, nutritionist and yogi-in-residence who directs the year-old yoga teacher training program, Barrie Kane Rosencrans, MS, RD, LD, 500-hour yoga trained, said, “To have Sri Dharma, a ‘teacher of teachers,’ come to Northeast Ohio and Walden is an extraordinary blessing. At 76 years young, he has taught thousands of classes and represents a direct lineage from the great Indian yogis. For the past two years, teachers from the Dharma Yoga Center in New York City have been guest-teaching classes at Spa Walden, and recently I was fortunate to study at a weekend immersion with Sri Dharma. His classes at Spa Walden offer a rare opportunity to truly learn at the feet of a master.”

Brazilian born Dharma Mittra often is regarded as today’s leading authority in the west on the practice of yoga, radiant health and spiritual development. A student of Sri Swami Kailashananda, also known as Yogi Gupta, in the 1960s the former bodybuilder renounced the world to serve his guru for a decade. In 1975, he opened the Dharma Yoga New York Center that is currently located in Manhattan’s Chelsea district. Sri Dharma is known for being photographed at the age of 45 in 1,350 yoga poses, completed in devotion to his guru. Of these 908 were used to create the Ultimate Yoga Chart, and 608 were included in his classic illustrated guide to hatha yoga, Asanas, published in 2003.

Sri Dharma has practiced yoga and meditation daily for more than 45 years. An adherent of strict veganism, his ahimsa, or practice of not causing harm, extends beyond dietary guidelines to his philosophy on opening the heart, respecting all life and purifying the body. His yoga practice emphasizes the importance of backbends, inversions such as headstand, and deep relaxation. An in-demand yoga master who has taught hundreds of thousands of students, Sri Dharma is known for his approachable and even humble manner. He regularly travels the world to teach workshops at highly regarded yoga retreats and centers such as Kripalu, Omega Institute, Wanderlust and the Yoga Journal Conferences. The Dharma Center offers programs for yoga teacher training and in-depth study.

Those curious about yoga could not ask for a more fortunate first encounter, open to all fitness levels and ages, in a more tranquil, beautiful setting. Experienced yoga practitioners can expect an enlightening Saturday evening with one of the world’s foremost authorities on yogic breathing and meditation techniques. However, all with an interest in yoga are welcome. Other than wearing comfortable clothes and bringing a yoga mat or cushion, all that participants should bring are an open mind and heart, and a willingness to learn.
