A group of Club Walden Members gathered for the Second Annual Polar Bear Open this past Saturday at Walden. This was not about jumping into Lake Walden. This was survival of the fittest Walden style…how many holes could they play before they froze or someone’s cart slid off the cart path!
Honestly, I did not know the event was taking place. I became curious when I saw golf carts passing my office window, and saw a few members dressed as though they were going sled riding. I then heard comments like: “let’s try and get in 15, 16, and 17.” “What about the hill on 15? Will our carts be able to make it down the icy cart path without sliding off?”
I stopped in the pro shop to snap a quick picture of this crazy group and found out this was a new Walden tradition for these friends. Last year they played their first annual Polar Bear Open and returned this year. With Saturday’s temperatures right around 20 degrees and snow on the ground, I wonder if they will return next year? We will have to wait and see. By the way, as I was leaving work a little later, I spotted them on the 4th hole…. I thought they were only playing 15, 16, and 17!
