This is a weekly class focused on developing the students understanding and practice of the ancient healing arts of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Gong. This class will teach the student breath awareness and movement practices that can increase vitality, decrease stress, improve flexibility and strength, increase balance, and improve posture just to name a few of the benefits of such a practice.
Chi Gong means energy practice and will be the foundation of every class. Chi Gong involves both the practices of stillness in developing an awareness of chi, the bodies internal energy; and movement practices coupled with specific breathing and sometimes visualization to help harmonize and heal the body and mind. Once a connection to the breath and movement has been established the class will teach the basic forms of Tai Chi Chuan. These will range from the 13 Movement Tai Chi Chi Gong very basic form and eventually build the student to the longer forms step by step eventually teaching the 108 Movement Yang Style Form. Each form is a complete practice in itself and each student is encouraged to practice each form as they are taught, regularly.
One of the beautiful aspects about Tai Chi and Chi Gong is that anyone can practice them daily. Unlike other forms of exercise that may require rest days Tai Chi and Chi Gong increase the health and vitality of the practitioner which allows for daily practice. Since the practices aim at decreasing stress and increasing health and vitality, they are done slow, have very little effect on the heart rate, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system thereby increasing the bodies natural rest and healing capabilities.
